Ogene – Nti-Ike

I got this in a shop in Lefferts Gardens filled floor to ceiling with Nigerian films and African soap. It was buried in a rack of gospel tapes.

Maybe I’m daft but I couldn’t have guessed by looking at it that this Ogene tape would turn out to be very, very good music (hint: bell patterns repeating toward infinity).

neither would I! great stuff. btw, there seems to be sth wrong with track b2 – shows 34+ minutes and generally behaves strange

I visit this blog regularly looking for stuff to sample and I have to say this record is one of the best I’ve found on here – really interesting sounds and beats.

not at all what i’d expected, either… even after your description… what a rich continent is Africa!!!

b/t/w: i do find something wierd about ONWU, as well… i downloaded twice, but same problem…

anyway, the album’s flute playing reminds me of that intro scene from the TV serialization of Achebe’s THINGS FALL APART…

great sounds…

Thanks so much for posting this. This tapes has changed me eardrums in some fundamental way. Really. The bell playing, singing, flute, drums. Absolutely an awesome tape!

It’s inspired me to create some new music that feeds off the vibe of this tape. Not in imitation, but in inspiration. Thanks again.
