Okwueme

Okwueme ’99’

Jump for joy to Nigerian praise singing and traditional drumming, spinning in hypnotizing cycles. I’m actually feeling dizzy. Despite the balance of lilty harmony and aggressive pulsing, this tape, produced outside Port Harcourt, takes me want a siesta.

thank you so much!!! as much as i love yoruba percussion, i love even more the opportunity to hear some of the less well-known percussive traditions. we actually almost bought a car from a Port Harcourt man, believe it or not! He told us lots of stories about the traditional music, but of course that was back in the 1990’s with no way to hear the stuff except maybe by borrowing tapes from a guy like him… wow…

Didn’t want to let Christmas pass without saying thank you, Brian, for all the music you bring us. There’s been penty of drama in the blogging world, but ATFA has been a delight as always. Keep up the good work! Thank you & all best for 2013.

David
