Magnificent expression of mbalax joy and intensity from a venerable, if lesser known internationally, singer from Sine, Senegal. Soda Mama Fall was raised in a family of griots and began performing at age 7. Later after being discovered via traditional performances on Radio Senegal and RTS, she was invited to join l’Ensemble lyrique traditionnel de Sorano, with whom she traveled the world and performed alongside a ridiculous list of Senegalese folk music luminaries. Here’s a lot more info and quotes from her (in French).
