Senegalese mbalax singer Thione Ballago Seck is really good. This 2001 recording of Seck & le Raam Daan is a perfect example, his unmistakable fluttery voice carried by relentless sabar drumming and interesting melodies. A lot of mbalax feels repetitive/dull to me but I am not mad at this album.
FYI: Awesome Tapes from Africa DJ set at this party at Rose Live Music in Williamsburg on Saturday, April 24.

Love this tape – thank you! A completely different Jamm la Paix from Youssou’s; and surely “The La Force” translates as “Tea is what keeps us going”?! Fantastic. Thank you
